Dental implants

Dental implants are titanium cylinders that are placed in the bone so they become the artificial roots that will bear a porcelain crown without touching the neighboring teeth. The artificial tooth replaces the natural one and has the same functions of it.

The procedure is painless and if the conditions are favorable it should be a short time surgery of, depending on the number of implants we need to place. The post operating care is equal to the one indicated for other mouth surgeries (as extractions), soft diet for 2 days, relative rest, ice cream for 24 hours, etc.

Before placing the implant, the surgeon should do the evaluations of the zone where it is going to be placed, to evaluate if the bone has the thickness or the adequate height. If this is not the case by regeneration techniques the bone can be remolded by placing grafts can be remodeled, we can also use osteogenic distraction. Tespecialist will tell you the options.

The implants replace conventional removible prosthesis. Not more hooks neither palates will be necessary to replace teeth lost, no longer will be necessary to put in a glass with water your prosthesis at night since the implants are fixed. But it should keep in mind that the possibility exists that you continue using a removible prosthesis but to hold a few implants to win stability. This procedure is only done if isto place many implants because of bone defects, phonetics or also to save money.

The first thing that you should think about is that if you want to use a fixed or a removinle prosthesis and the Doctor will tell youif it is possible or not. In most cases, it is possoble.

The implants replace to the traditional bridges where it was necessary to erode the neighboring pieces to put the bridge, from time to time the eroded teeth required endodontics besides a bolt; which made the treatment longer and more expensive.

Another factor is the hygiene, because is easier to clean the implants than the bridges and finally the bone continues to reabsorb in the bridge, which does not happen with the implants that avoids reabsorcion of the bone since they make it work

The cost of the implants depends on many factors: its origin, the type of titanium, the difficulty of the echnique by proximity to anatomical zones that should not be damaged, the prestige of the specialist and finally the conditions of the market. In Peru a dental implant can fluctuate between US$450 and US$700, plus US$250 - US$380 for the crown.

These prices are referencial, but the main thing is that they are an investment in your health since the mouth is the first organ that participates in the alimentary chain carrying health or illness to rest of the body.
